Welcome volunteers, local church Risk Management officers, and pastors. Safety, protection of kids on our campuses, is primary. Volunteers must complete background checks through SCC’s exclusive process below.
Regular Volunteer Background Check
SCC prioritizes the safety of children and adheres to the state law.
Church leadership, regular volunteers:
- The Southern California Conference is officially classified as a Youth Service organization by the State of California.
- An “administrator” in the below context is a Church Board Member.
The text of the AB 506 law states the following:
- “An administrator, employee, or regular volunteer of a youth service organization (underlining added) shall complete the training in child abuse and neglect identification and training in child abuse and neglect reporting.”
- An administrator, employee, or regular volunteer of a service organization shall undergo a background check pursuant to Section 11105.3 of the Penal Code…”

Clarifying factors:
SCC’s policy is that all regular volunteers (individuals who officially hold a nominating committee voted leadership position) are to be Live Scanned and compliant with AB 506 requirements. Every regular volunteer, not only those working with kids, must be Live Scanned and complete their AB 506 training before beginning volunteer work. And ALL who volunteer with kids, not just the leadership, ages 18 and above, must participate in the process.
