Each year, Adventurer clubs look forward to the Adventurer retreat, a weekend of outdoor activities, games, crafts, worship, and time spent with family and each other. For the convenience of families attending, this year’s retreat took place over two weekends in May and June at Camp Cedar Falls. About 300 people attended each weekend. The theme was “I Belong to Jesus.”

“An Adventurer retreat is essential because it strengthens familial and clubs’ bonds through shared experiences and participation in activities,” said Nuris Barriga, Southern California Conference (SCC) youth ministries departmental assistant.

Both weekends followed a similar program and schedule. After attendees arrived and settled in, Friday night began with worship. Saturday’s activities included a sermon from Jaime Heras, SCC children’s ministries director. He, along with Jenny Heras, children’s ministries assistant, led the worship messages both weekends. The clubs provided special music, and Adventurers from each church represented showcased their knowledge of the Bible through a game focused on passages from Luke. Sabbath afternoon, attendees learned about various snakes and lizards through an interactive show from Wild Man Dan and, afterward, enjoyed a hike to the treehouse. Later that night, kids were treated to a carnival night with popcorn and games. The retreat concluded Sunday with worship and a presidential fitness challenge, which promoted both spiritual and physical well-being.

The Adventurer retreat was a fun-filled weekend that gave Adventurers an opportunity to make friends, play, develop skills, and connect with Jesus.
